Rudy L. Ogburn
Rudy Ogburn received his undergraduate and law degrees from Wake Forest University. He was a Regional Trust Manager for First Citizens Bank prior to joining Young Moore and Henderson, P.A. in 1989. A North Carolina State Bar Certified Specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law, Rudy was named a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel in March, 2000. He is a past chair of the Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. Rudy is the current chair of the Estate Planning and Probate Law Committee of the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization.
As head of the estate planning and probate practice team at Young Moore and Henderson, Rudy concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, wills, trusts, wealth transfer, estate administration, asset protection, charitable giving, business planning, and premarital agreements.
Throughout his career, Rudy has worked with hundreds of clients to develop estate plans tailored to meet the particular needs of each client and their heirs. Rudy is skilled in designing estate plans which reduce estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer taxes as well as planning for charitable giving and family business succession planning. Rudy's past experience as a Trust Officer gives him unique insight into the practical concerns associated with the use of trusts in estate planning cases. He has also worked with numerous clients to address the planning strategies required for family members with special needs. Clients also often consult with Rudy on asset protection issues.
Rudy and the estate administration team at Young Moore and Henderson place great emphasis on providing caring service to individuals who have lost loved ones. They assist with the often difficult tasks involved in estate administration such as the interpretation of wills and trust agreements, will disputes, property valuations, working with the probate court, preparation of accounts and tax returns and taking full advantage of the tax laws to reduce the impact of estate and income taxes on estates.
Rudy assists clients with the organization of businesses and with resolving business transition issues particularly in the family owned business setting. He has experience assisting clients with business acquisitions, preparing and reviewing shareholder agreements, and completing like-kind exchanges.
Rudy, his wife, Deb, and their children live in Raleigh, NC. Rudy is past President of the Raleigh Jaycees and has been awarded a lifetime membership in that organization.
